Rooftime 25 crew, participants, and spectators –

Greetings everyone – we can’t believe how fast the weekend went. Rooftime 25 is in the books!

We had an AMAZING turnout for the weekend, and we can’t thank everyone enough for coming out to support Rooftime. This tournament continues to be a great combination of volleyball in support of a worthy cause. And it’s awesome to see people come from so far away to support this tournament! We had well over ~ 120 competitors each day, and I’m sure we didn’t get a chance to speak to everyone, but we sincerely welcome your support.

Tallying both outdoor days, as well as our indoor tournament in February, and including all raffle/T-shirt/cookie/serving contest support, plus Dennis’ “bucket” from pickup, as well as all the very generous contributions to the donation website this year, the total funds raised came out to over $12,000 !!! For those of you keeping track at home, that beats the previous Rooftime record of $10,688 – somebody call Guinness! (and remember this for the Rooftime 50 trivia questions :)

We can’t wait until Rooftime 26 next year, and hope you can join us again! Congratulations to all our volleyball winners, and to all our raffle winners!

We did have a bit of rain on Saturday, and I do apologize to the ladies in Women’s A – we probably called that one a bit too early for the raffle. At the time lots of folks were asking to wrap it up. Lesson learned, we’ll be more patient next time. And for the few folks that finished playing in the rain, I’m very glad none of you got injured! We did have a couple of injuries on Sunday, but fortunately none requiring an ambulance. (I hope those folks and their injuries were not too bad)

We’d also like to thank our fantastic Rooftime crew. In particular, we’d like to thank:

Frank Sanfillipo – Frank (and Hudson Valley Volleyball) generously provides all the nets, the coolers, the equipment, secures the field for us and donates all his time on both days. This tournament truly would not happen without Frank. Thank you Frank!

The front office: Lauren Wilson and Caitlin Patry. Check in, Waivers, Late fees, questions, requests for late starts – they do it all! Thank you so much to Lauren and Caitlin for all their hard work this weekend, and also getting up super early to volunteer their time.

The net crew & serving contest: Frank Sanfallipo, KJ Cecere, Steve Anania, Tim Milholm, Nihad Hadzic, Julia Tyles, Eric Lewis, Nicole Kellog, Kevin Boyd, Christine LaGuardia, Jim Huenniger, Molly Jenkins, Ryan Burns, Christy Rodrigues, Jaime & James Zoller, Michelle Jacobson, Jackie Strothenke, Frank and Bria Le (and Jeremy Kempisty - in spirit) - thank you all so much for all your help this weekend! It’s not glamorous to get up early to set up 17 nets, but this crew was there, many of them both days!

Master Raffle & Cookie seller: James Zoller. This young man worked tirelessly for 2 days and helped us out tremendously!

Hudson River Housing - This year we had Kristine Cortwright and Elizabeth Celaya come out to support Rooftime. It was great to meet Kristine and see Elizabeth again!

There were a few notable milestones and things to mention from Rooftime 25:

1. It’s been a long time since we’ve had 2 nets of Men’s Open, 2 nets of Women’s Open, and 2 nets of Reverse Open – I know there are many options for tournaments to play, so thanks to all the Open players for coming out to a charity tournament.
2. Likewise, it’s been a LONG time since we’ve had 2 nets of Men’s BB, 2 nets of Women’s BB, and 2 nets of Rev Coed BB… lots of first timers on those pools, so I hope you all had a great time and come back next year. (As well as to HVV tourneys)
3. I believe this is the first time ever we’ve had a woman in the finals of Men’s Open. (much less in Men’s Open at all) Maximum respect for Debbie Schendel.
4. 11 year old Kylie Rodrigues played her first outdoor tournament (in quads) and was on the winning team for Recreational Quads! And an even larger achievement – she had to put up with Don Peterson all day - welcome to outdoor tourneys Kylie!
5. Lauren Wilson became only the 4th person (in the history of available Rooftime records) to win Open on both Saturday and Sunday. (The 3 others are Stefanie Carrington, Tina Fumo and Carlos Tollinche – that’s some good company to be in!)
6. We had several long distance travelers - my brother Ryan and sister in law Lynher came from Austin Texas. Stephanie and Spencer Hilland came from Tampa, Florida. And Barry Gower and the entire Gower family drove up from North Carolina. Thank you all so much for coming from so far to play Rooftime! We’ll need to get travelers from further than Austin Texas to break a record!
7. My 1 year old nephew Luke came to his first Rooftime ever! (As did several other Future Rooftimers!) 

And thank you to everyone who helped out, came to watch, played, or in general supported the Rooftime effort. We hope to see you at Under the Roof VI in February at the MAC,and Rooftime 26 next July. Your support makes a huge difference in the continued success of Hudson River Housing. See you on the court!
