The tournament was a great success despite the rainout on Sunday. We raised over $4100 for the homeless shelter in one day! This is the first time in 8 years that we lost an entire day due to weather - not too bad. Thank you to everyone who helped with the tournament and a special thanks to the very loyal player base (many of whom made very generous donations)!!
We played men's and women's doubles on Saturday. The conditions were almost ideal for playing vball; the cloud cover allowed you to see the ball at all times, so you didn't have to worry about looking into the sun. And speaking of coverage, we also got a bit of publicity in the Poughkeepsie Journal on Sunday. With a great picture of Tim Lang, the article provided some details about the tournament along with some quotes from Steve Anania, Sue Polgrean and Jim Huenniger.
The tournament had over 70 players who came from all over the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area, including the usual out-of-town guests from as far away as Austin, Boulder, Lake George, and Boston.
We could not have done this without the help of many, many people. First of all, we would like to thank all the players who participated in this year's event. Without you, there would not be any tournament! Every year, we are amazed by the spirit of all the competitors. Even though this is "only a charity tournament" (and we realize that our prizes are not on par with the other tournaments in the area), everyone still plays with just as much enthusiasm and determination. Most impressive!
And, of course, many thanks to our sponsors!!
