Spectacular! With the Empire State Games opening up on Wednesday here at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, I knew a few of our core set of players would not be on the field this weekend. Also heard of a fair number of other local faithful that could not make an appearance either due to business trips, vacation or pregnancy. However the fantastic weather help draw a record breaking crowd. On Saturday we had a total of 57 doubles teams and on Sunday 46 doubles teams and 15 4s teams for a record breaking total of 266 players (well, actually a little more since we had some subs for the 4s teams, but I'm close). Between the registration fees, t-shirt sales and rather generous donations from a few individuals and the Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, we managed to raise a record breaking $7729 for the Dutchess County Coalition for the Homeless (and if you are keeping track, the previous record was Rooftime 11 with $7668). Furthermore, the sales from the food booth generated another $700 for Hillcrest House (a sister organization of DCCH under the Hudson River Housing umbrella). Pretty impressive for a bunch of volleyball geeks! Thanks! Xie-xie! Kiitos! Merci! Danke! Grazie! Arigato! Kamsamnida! Spasibo! Gracias! Bedankt! Mahalo! Hvala!

As usual, there are tons of people to thank. First of all, to all the players who travel from both near and far, thanks for participating in this event. Without you, there would be no tournament. To all the sponsors for donating the prizes (so that all the proceeds can go directly to the homeless shelter), donations for the shelter and for the cash donations. Finally to all the people who work so hard to make this tournament run so smoothly.

In a few days, we'll get some pictures out on the web-page. Unfortunately, Steve neglected some of his "tournament director" responsibilities on Saturday and failed to snap a photo of the winners.
